Kirberg Castle

The Kirberg Castle

According to tradition, in prehistoric times there was a place of worship on this cliff. The Franks built a church on the site. At the founding of the city of Kirpurg in 1355, this treasure was torn up, along with its neighboring cemetery and a castle was built on the site. This building served to show the strength of the local rulers and subjugate the residents of the small town. Since no one concerned themselves with its upkeep, it soon fell into disrepair. In 1790, it was sold and torn down. Even the stones were quarried. In this way the greater part of it was destroyed. Today the Kirberg castle ruins are a noted symbol of the community of Hünfelden.
